25-797 Prescription Transfers Due to Rite Aid Pharmacy Closures
Date: 07/29/25
What actions must be taken to ensure uninterrupted access to medications
Due to multiple Rite Aid pharmacy closures across California, members who previously used Rite Aid may need to change to a new pharmacy.
What members need to do
- If a member’s Rite Aid location has closed, they should call the phone number listed on their prescription bottle.
- A recorded message will provide the name of the nearby pharmacy that has received their prescription records.
- Members can choose to fill their prescriptions at that pharmacy or any other pharmacy within the Health Net network.
Important reminder: Members must use a Health Net-participating pharmacy to fill prescriptions, with limited exceptions. Health Net’s network includes major pharmacy chains, grocery store pharmacies and independent neighborhood pharmacies.
How to transfer to a new pharmacy
Physicians should confirm the member’s preferred pharmacy before prescribing medication—whether during in-person visits or via telehealth.
Members can switch pharmacies by:
- Having their provider call in a prescription to any Health Net or Ambetter network pharmacy, based on the member’s plan and location preference (home or work), or
- Receiving a new written prescription from their provider and taking it to a network pharmacy.
