DHCS authorizes the use of audio-only to establish a new patient for sensitive services

The Department of Healthcare Services (DHCS) amends Assembly Bill (AB) 32 effective January 1, 2023, for telehealth services to qualified Medi-Cal patients.

Change to telehealth services

The amended bill allows Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) to use audio-only visits:

  • To establish a new Medi-Cal patient when it is for sensitive services.
  • When patient requests audio-only modality.
  • When patient attests they cannot access mobile services.
