22-685 Medi-Cal News that Affects You and Your Patients

This information applies to Medi-Cal in Fresno, Kings and Madera counties.

Expect more patients from the Older Adult Expansion, and encourage current patients to update their information with their county

Please review the reminders below to help your Medi-Cal patients receive or keep their coverage.

Older Adult Expansion OAE population

As of May 1, 2022, California state Assembly Bill 133 provides full-scope Medi-Cal coverage to adults ages 50 or older, regardless of immigration status (known as the Older Adult Expansion initiative). Let these patients know that applying for Medi-Cal does not disrupt or change immigration status or citizenship status. The Plan does not ask for or report immigration status.

Medi-Cal enrollment is available at any time. Patients can contact the CalViva Health Enrollment Department toll-free at 877-618-0903 for help to enroll.

How Medi-Cal enrollees report changes

Once the COVID-19 public health emergency ends, counties will check Medi-Cal eligibility. Talk to your patients about providing requested information if they or someone in their household receives a letter from the county asking for information about their Medi-Cal coverage.

Medi-Cal patients with any of the following changes should contact the county to help ensure their coverage stays active:

  • Phone number
  • Mailing address
  • Email address
  • Income
  • Disability status
  • Someone becomes pregnant or moves in

Your Medi-Cal patients can report changes to their local county office online or by phone, email, fax or in person. A list of county offices can be found at dhcs.ca.gov/COL or call the Medi-Cal Member Hotline at 800-541-5555.

Medi-Cal patients can also update their contact information online at CoveredCA.com or BenefitsCal.org.
