20-876 Refer Eligible Patients to the SACRED Birth Study to Help Fight Racism

For Medi-Cal, this information applies to Kern, Los Angeles, Riverside, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Tulare counties.

Help reduce maternal/infant mortality disparity among Black mothers and Black birthing people1 in California hospitals

The SACRED Birth Study explores patient experiences in hospital during labor, birth and postpartum, prior to going home. The study is designed for, by and with Black mothers and Black birthing people. The study focuses on six key areas:

  • Safety
  • Autonomy
  • Communication
  • Racism
  • Empathy
  • Dignity

The study is conducted by the University of California San Francisco. Health Net is a supporting partner of this initiative.

Refer a patient

Eligible patients can earn a $100 gift card to take part in the survey. You can help with this study by referring patients who meet the below three criteria:

  • Black or African American
  • Ages 18 and older
  • Gave birth in 2020 to a live newborn at a California hospital

Joining the study

Your patients can join the study on the UCSF website and complete these items:

  • Screening
  • Consent form
  • Contact form
  • Enrollment process
  • Survey (takes up to one hour)
