A psychiatric emergency medical condition is a mental disorder that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity that renders the patient as being either: an immediate danger to himself or herself or to others or immediately unable to provider for, or utilize, food, shelter, or clothing, due to the mental disorder.
